James Ward, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees in music, pursued a vocation in songwriting and contemporary Christian music from 1972 to 1996. He toured the United States and Canada extensively, released 10 albums, and wrote several hit songs for radio and congregational singing. His performance career included numerous festivals, conventions, and college lecture series, including the Staley lectures and guest lectures at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. From 1997 to 2002, James taught high school choir, jazz band, and music-related courses at Chattanooga Christian High School. In 2002, he accepted the call from New City Fellowship PCA to be director of music and worship. Two years later, he joined the faculty of Covenant College as adjunct instructor in jazz piano and jazz band. He makes a limited number of appearances as solo artist, worship leader, or lecturer. James and his wife, Beth, have two grown children.
